In 2020, we traveled to Molalla, Oregon to help restore buildings that suffered damage during the wildfires that roiled over the state. The Monaz Church of Christ was a haze-filled, severely smoke-damaged building. Pastor Todd Jordan reached out to us, and we are proud to have helped Pastor Todd and his church restore their building in time for a welcome-back service. No one can predict how the smoke and flames from wildfires will travel; we can only predict that our superbly trained technicians will help transform wreckage back to beauty.

In the summer of 2020, immense wildfires battered much of Oregon. Residents of Mollala had to leave the area for their safety. No one knew what they’d come back to. Pastor Todd Jordan and the members of the Monaz Church of Christ found they couldn’t breathe, and could barely even see, in their church. Pastor Todd knew about SERPVPRO from work they’d done on a home, so he called them. Local companies were overwhelmed, but because our franchises help one another, our teams at SERVPRO of San Diego City SW promised to be at the church within 24 hours.

Smoke Damage is Corrosive 

Even the smoke from small, well-contained fires can cause major damage if it’s not correctly remediated. At the Monaz Church, the fire was neither small nor well contained. Pastor Todd, his staff, and the congregation came back to a reeking, hazy mess. Our co-owners, Ben Sussman and Jordan Katz explained how we would clean and disinfect the church and its belongings, remediate the damage, and get rid of the odors before doing any necessary reconstruction and restoration. Our team members from SERVPRO of San Diego City SW worked steadily to get the church back to its pre-fire-damage condition. The congregation and staff members wanted to help, so Ben and Jordan trained them in some of the basics and paid them to do some of the less-technical cleaning chores. 

Pastor Todd said that he never felt like a customer; he felt – correctly – that we cared about the congregation.  

We cleaned and disinfected the structure, and cleaned and disinfected every item, carefully putting it back in place once we had removed the damage.
