Last month our local San Diego City, South West team was busy responding to storm damage emergencies due to the strong winds and stormy weather. The National Weather Service issued a Gale Watch, which is not an alert we often hear in San Diego. Here are some of the definitions for Gale alerts from the National Weather Service:
Gale Watch
A watch for an increased risk of gale force wind for sustained surface winds, or frequent gusts, of 34 knots (39 miles per hour) to 47 knots (54 miles per hour), but its occurrence, location, and timing is still uncertain.
Gale Warning
A warning of sustained surface winds, or frequent gusts, in the range of 34 knots (39 miles per hour) to 47 knots (54 miles per hour) inclusive, either predicted or occurring and not directly associated with a tropical cyclone.
Gale
An extratropical low or an area of sustained surface winds of 34 (39 miles per hour) to 47 knots (54 miles per hour).
